Attachment Disorder, Trauma, Adoption Issues, Child and Family Therapy
Attachment therapy facilitates the corrective process between a child and its caregiver and within the larger family environment. When a child develops an emotional connection or bond with their primary caregiver it becomes critical to facilitate healthy and secure relationships.
Their attachment relationships are developed and maintained through the therapy process.
When a child has established a secure attachment relationship with a primary caregiver he/she feels safe, trusting and confident when exploring his/her surroundings, and in establishing and maintaining intimate relationships and engaging in social interactions. Just as there are variations in the attachment disturbances children experience, there are also variations in healthy and secure attachment relationships which carry through into adulthood.
While each child is unique and their own attachment disposition, Touchstone Therapy utilizes the ABT and its techniques to provide positive developmental outcomes.
Attachment Based Therapy
Parenting children with attachment difficulties can be highly stressful for parents and family members. Sometimes stress can be experienced at acute levels and over prolonged periods of time. Supporting parents in their role as caregivers is an essential component of ABT.
Intrusive therapy approaches such as holding or rage reduction therapy are not practiced
at Touchstone Therapy Center, and are NOT viewed as useful in resolving the developmental
effects of early trauma and abuse.
